My journey into the world of baking
My Story
Hello, I'm Miguel Chuc, the proud owner and founder of Panaderia y Pasteleria Totopan. My journey began in the heart of Totonicapán, Guatemala, where the vibrant traditions and flavors of Guatemalan baking first inspired my passion for this craft. In 1993, at the age of 17, I made the brave decision to leave my home and family behind to seek new opportunities in the United States.
Settling in Brooklyn was no easy feat, but I was determined to make the most of this new chapter in my life. My early years were spent working tirelessly in various bakery stores, starting from the very basics and gradually mastering the art of baking. Those experiences were invaluable, teaching me the intricacies of mixing flour, perfecting dough, and creating pastries that evoke a sense of home.
In 2021, after years of dedication and hard work, I fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening the first Totopan Bakery in Sunset Park. The community's warm reception and love for our authentic Guatemalan breads and pastries inspired me to take another leap. Soon after, I expanded our reach by opening a second location, Panaderia y Pasteleria Totopan, in Bensonhurst.
Each day at Totopan is a celebration of Guatemalan heritage and a testament to the journey that brought me here. Our bakeries are more than just places to buy bread—they are gathering spots where the community comes together to enjoy the rich flavors and warm hospitality that define our culture.
Thank you for being a part of our story. I invite you to visit us, taste our creations, and experience a piece of Guatemala right here in Brooklyn.
Bienvenidos!
Miguel Chuc
